sometimes I wonder where love will find me. in a city this vast, how do two lives ever touch?

it’s endless: faces, voices, people brushing past without knowing. and still, I keep hoping for one pair of eyes to finally meet mine and stay.

maybe on the Q train at dusk, or in the slow aisle of a bodega, where the fluorescent light hums above us.

some nights it feels impossible. sometimes I think love is here, just one turn away, but it doesn’t notice me.

other nights, just maybe … a glance, a pause, a quiet shake inside me.

I keep writing these fragments to remind myself I’m still open, still waiting, still dreaming.

this song is called sHHake.

sHHake every time I see your handle/I think the Spanish punk band Vulpess/how many hearts to go/before we get old/looking off a fire escape/while I write this on my phone/I see you in the Shake Shack drive thru/& when I move, you/DM me the most interesting words/I have ever seen/pretending to be,/pretending they are true

  1. Openness is essential for the experience. And so it is patience. When the time is right, when you least expect it, it will be there. And you will understand why you had to wait all this time. Beautiful song and precious post, as ever, Cookie! Thank you for sharing and for always calling forward some reflection. With appreciation, sending you infinite blessings, love, and light 🙏✨💖🌻🍀🌈

    1. hi Susanna. oh thank you. 💕 I hear everything you’re saying about timing and patience. I’m in no rush, and well, you know, kind of a mess…but there are moments where it feels like all the best moments are passing by. though I try to hold on to hope, fragile as it may be.

      1. Warms my heart to know this. Thank you for sharing, cookie. ♥️ Believe it or not a major storm rolled through – had to run through the rain to get where I was going. I have no complaints. Stay safe and keep sharing your beautiful voice.

  3. I love your search and question with such a great song Cookie! You give me hope in our youth today who seem to think you have to meet online. Staying open and present is all that has ever been needed. A wish a desire are the foundation of creating lasting love and I trust at the right time it will land in your lap-:)
    Hugs and love,❤️

    1. hi Cindy. maybe I’m just weird, but I believe there’s something raw and beautiful about meeting in person, where words and glances hold meaning beyond a screen. thank you for listening. 💕

  4. I love the song! I can relate to moments of wondering if love may never come, especially after something that was going well suddenly ends. You think wow if that ended, I wonder if it’ll happen. But then you see people who are truly happy together and you recognize what you bring and how you’d love, and it reminds you that yes it’s possible. It only takes one person.

  5. Love this song cookie. Chord sequence and melody choice is sublime. Lyrics and voice tone as great as ever too.

Lovely way to express your dreams and wishes here cookie. As others here say, there will be a time that mutual love and happiness arrives. Soulmates do exist. And do have a habit of finding each other. Being drawn to each other. In the most unlikeliest of places too. That’s why they call it magnetism. You can’t plan these things I believe. They simply arrive in the blink of an eye. And when two pair of eyes, the windows to the soul, do actually meet each other. There’s no mistaking.

All the best. Thank you for another insightful and thoughtful piece. 💫

      1. There are, in every area of life, times of sharing both pessimism and optimism. We often bounce between the two. And so, there are always times when the reality of unlooked for wonderful moments often meet us just around the corner. Over decades in my life, such has been the case. Extraordinary happenstance gifts that lead on to ongoing, joyous treasures that stick around as good friends. Or, can leave, but stay in the memory to reflect back on. And on reflecting, they keep you positive, emotionally stable, warm and content. We build our own safe houses on such foundations.

        Cheers cookie. 💫
