I feel like a punk.

most teachers, Catholic School nuns, cops, and passersby on the street would say I am one.

that’s the attitude that I identify with.

one thing about the names people give to us, they can be a kind of injury.

a punk: the rotting piece of wood used as kindling to start a fire. worthless. a reject. a troublemaker. a failure.

but a name can also be a badge of honor we give to ourselves. a punk: the flame itself. an outsider who can say things people on the inside are afraid to say. a shift. being willing to fail so you can make something different.

when I pick up the guitar and start playing, the music doesn’t come out sounding what people would consider punk. it’s something else.

so here’s something else.

I wonder at the actual variations to the meaning of this term as generations move in time…you seem a gentle soul to me , Cookie…
    “it’s something else..”….as you say…most certainly is🤍💫

    and it’s a wow share…thank you.

(just to ask… sometimes when I listen to your music…I can’t hear the words clearly…there’s a sort of echo sound….whats the chances of you adding on your lyrics when you share your music with us….just asking 😬)

    1. I suppose the word does mean different things to different people. I meet people with punk style now and then, and we don’t look or sound or act anything alike. but we feel each other.

I’m sorry about the audio. maybe it’s because my guitar is really distorted on this track. this week I will share the words and hope they resonate. thanks as always for listening.

  3. Love the gritty guitar sound cookie. Punk vibe with the vibrant insistent rhythm definitely. Listened to your whole new output on Bandcamp. I need to get a MP3 or other system to download on to properly. It told me my iPad system couldn’t support download on your first album. Once I’ve figured that out, then full steam ahead. You need to say about your happy place with appropriate album price cookie.

You have produced great new songs, and it was good to hear this punk gritty guitar nature on other of your new songs too. Yes. You are a true punk by nature. You would feel very at home in 1977 to early 80s UK-ville. And amongst all the original punk bands that were in our musically driven exciting atmosphere. I wrote a lyric way back that said ‘We’re on the outside looking in…at your world. Not sure you’ll ever fit in….to our world’. That was punk, but all were welcomed if they crossed over. Cheers cookie. Looking forward to the blog ‘punk, et al’ descriptive stories that explain and support your other new songs. And will sort out getting your music into my Bandcamp app. Brilliant.

    1. what a killer lyric, you totally get where I’m coming from, Gray. I can’t tell who is listening on bandcamp but I know you follow me there. secretly, nervously, I was hoping you had had a chance. people ask me all the time why I don’t charge for downloads. I wouldn’t know how to price my music. I think of it as graffiti, like spray paint on the side of a train or building, just lo fi, not produced or anything. when I play out, yes, I love to be paid and sure that feels good. but on social if someone catches me somewhere, that’s cool with me and more than enough.

      1. I watched a YouTube upload recently on cassette tape ownership. Although old school, they were, and still may be, very valid. Having something to own that is tactile. Like old vinyl, cassettes and subsequently CD discs. You can hold the covers in your hand and appreciate background stories, musicians involved, where recorded, lyrics, thank you’s, artwork, etc. from the artist. MP3 players like iPods, Walkmans, etc., although touch friendly, destroyed the visual art and information inclusions. Vinyl, etc. gave the listener a close bond to the artist’s story. Streaming has really separated us from our treasured ownership and the feeling that this is ‘my’ music. And appreciating the artist themselves. You have provided your album covers artwork on Bandcamp as an image to focus upon when listening to your songs. And information too. And also your blog words and stories give insights into the song vibes and background picture of ‘cookie life’.

So your music isn’t a ‘simple’ package at all. It’s a holistic collective. I have been thinking about using the cassette medium as an opportunity to get my songs out there later this year. Well….when the songs are enough to fill a tape! You got your new songs out there pretty quickly cookie. Very impressed. I will buy your albums when I get a download source set up. I bought Shep’s (Harmonica Riff Raff) single about a month ago off Bandcamp and have to find it through internet access or email link. So still working on this problem. Keep on doing what you do cookie. It works brilliantly.

      3. You don’t need to say anything back to me cookie. Just keep writing and singing. That says everything you need to say. Both for yourself…and others’ listening. 😊 Cheers cookie. All the best.
