leave a bike outside long enough in New York City, and it will probably be stripped of its parts, left for dead.
was the bicycle’s actual cause of death heartbreak from not being ridden around? because only moving does it have a soul.
most of the songs I write tell and retell a story of abandonment and derealization. there are also love songs, and songs about drugs (that aren’t really about drugs).
where will I go with them? do they have to go anywhere? how many people will even listen? who are they for anyway? what is their meaning beyond the consolation they brought to me in writing them? I won’t love them any less if no one else hears them.
but the thing is, someone out there might need to hear one. need it the most. what good will it do if it stays locked to a pole, tree or rack?
because only sung does it have a soul.
